Direct Access Motorbike Training in Ayrshire

The Direct Access (DAS) Course was introduced for people who want to get a license to ride bikes larger than 125cc.   You have to be 21 years old before you can take your Direct Access motorbike training.

What’s Involved in the DAS Course?

You will take in our training centre and on the local roads in and around Ayr.   These roads are great for learning to ride as they offer all common challenges such as traffic lights and roundabouts, with moderate levels of traffic.  There are also plenty of quieter streets to give you practice and build confidence.

Our instructors will take you through a full training course to ensure that you are competent in all of the skills needed to both pass your test and go on the road as a safe rider.

What is Covered in the DAS Course?

You will get a full day of Compulsory Basic Training, followed by 20 hours training including your module 1 and 2 tests.  During this training you will gain all of the knowledge and skills needed to handle larger motorbikes on the road such as:

  1. Safety elements of motorcycles
  2. How to use motorcycle controls effectively
  3. How to handle a motorcycle in a variety of scenarios from starting, stopping, parking and riding at various speeds.
  4. Important parts of the highway code and motorcycle specific road  awareness elements such as road positioning, hazard perception and making sure you stay visible to other motorists.

After completing the CBT, you will then move on to completing Module 1 and Module 2 tests and need to pass each stage before progressing to the next level of training within the course.

Do I Need My Own Bike, Helmet and Protective Clothing?

We have our own fleet of bikes for learners to use.  We also provide helmets, gloves and protective leathers which comply with the latest safety regulations.

You can also choose to take your training on your own motorbike.  This can save you money on your training course, and also let you become familiar with the bike that you will be riding after passing your test.
